The new minimum threshold introduced by the CBAM amendment excludes imports that do not exceed 50 tons per year.
On September 10, the European Parliament definitively approved the CBAM amendment with 617 votes in favor, 18 against, and 19 abstentions. The updates are part of the ‘Omnibus I’ simplification package presented on February 26, 2025, designed to simplify existing legislation on sustainability and investment. The amendments to the EU Border Carbon Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) therefore limit the administrative burden on SMEs and occasional importers. The text now passes to the Council.
